SubscriberI am trying to model a spar-floater system in Ansys Aqwa and calculate the force on both spar and floater
I have 2 questions:
- How is the phase of the force defined?
- What does the direction "-180 degrees" - marked by a blue circle in the attachment mean?
Thanks a lot

Ansys EmployeeHello In the Aqwa reference manual (section 1.2.3), you have the definition of the phase angle, how it calculated as well as the meaning of the sign of the phase for a given output parameter you are looking at.
By convention a positive phase angle indicates that the parameter max value is reached after the wave peak, i.e. the parameter lags behind the wave.
This observation takes place at a reference point (in Aqwa, this is the COG of the structure). The phase is defined so that the time difference between the wave reaching its peak and the parameter reaching its max value is equal to the wave period * phase / 360.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards Ingrid

SubscriberThank you for your answer. Could you also shed some light on my second question if possible?
