Automatic Beam to Line Body Conversion or Line Body Import

I am working on a model with multiple solid cylindrical beams that are good candidates for beam elements. Thus far I have been using the "Extract" tool in SpaceClaim to create line bodies from these solid beams, which works alright but slows down my workflow since every time I make a change to CAD (using Solidworks) I need to update in SpaceClaim and manually extract beams every time before opening in Mechanical.

I am wondering if there is either:

         a) A way to import line bodies directly from Solidworks

       b) A way to automatically create or extract line bodies in Mechanical

Any other options that would allow me to update my CAD model while retaining line bodies would be appreciated. Thanks!

In Geometry Import Properties, Import Line bodies is OFF by default. Click the checkbox to enable. You might also have to set Mixed Import Resolution to Line. Please refer to the attached image.

I have tried this previously, but no line bodies appear in Mechanical upon import. How are the line bodies represented when you import them. In sketches or something else?

      Thanks!

Ok, looks to be that line bodies can be imported via SW sketches, but file must be converted to neutral format (.IGS working for me) first
