ANSYS Workbench – Performing Additive Build Step

The additive build step seems to be taking quite a long time to proceed. Is this normal? Are there ways to reduce the calculation time?

Is it converging successfully, but very just very slowly? What kind of feedback are you seeing in your solver output? Assuming convergence is good, but slow, are you taking full advantage of parallel processing? Refer to the Performance Guide of MAPDL for tips on enhancing solver performance.
Of course, there are other things you could try to make your model more efficient from the start, like using a variable layer height, if you are using a very fine mesh in noncritical areas. Perhaps also an inherent strain method would have merit for efficiency, if you are satisfied with the simplifying assumptions. See Chapter 6 of AM Analysis Guide for more details.

Where is this AM analysis guide? thanks.

From Start Menu, navigate to the 'Ansys Help 2021-R2' Doc icon. From there, you should be able to find the Additive Support Doc options:
