Differential thermal expansion

      Hello guys I have a doubt and I need your help.


      I have two flanges one of steel and other composite and they are fastened. They have different coefficient of thermal expansion hence thermal stresses are induced. How to overcome it?

      Perhaps a flexible gasket between the two flanges will permit differential expansion of the flanges. It's not really an Ansys question is it?

      Nope its not a ansys question..But this place is for sharing knowledge and discussion ..so i thought of posting here..Thanks for your response.

      If you provide more information such as an image of the steel part and the composite part, you might get a more relevant answer. Flanges suggests pipes are involved as 's reply implies. I'm going to assume that "flanges" are flat circular features on bodies that are not pipes.
      One configuration to rigidly connect two flanges with different CTE values and have no thermal stress is to use a Hexapod strut mount. This image shows adjustable struts, which are useful for precisely aligning one body with the other, but if you don't need adjustment. you can have fixed length struts.
