Rotational Symmetry of Cylindrical Lattice Structure

Question - Why when I prescribe a lattice pattern to a cylindrical body in a topology optimization run, it does not respect the rotational symmetry of the body?

Answer - The Lattice pattern is oriented according to the global cartesian coordinate system, independent of the geometry. Hence the topo opt solution will not be completely rotationally symmetric even if the body it is scoped to is. This has been identified as an inherent limitation of lattice patterns in topo opt.
