A description of fluid flow is obtained from the spatial and temporal distribution of variables such as velocity, pressure, temperature, and density. To understand this, we categorize flow systems as closed or open. For example, boiling water in a kettle is an example of an open system. The generated steam escapes from the spout. These classifications help us in our analysis of the flow.
In this lesson, we will learn about other engineering examples of open and closed systems. We will also introduce the necessary framework for analyzing these systems.
