Thermo-Structural Analysis of a Brake- Lesson 3

Brakes are one of the most important components for safety, as they allow cars to slow down as needed. The brakes heat up as they are used, which can affect the structural integrity and ultimately lead to failure if they are overheated. Brake failure could be catastrophic, so it is helpful for teams to perform a thermostructural analysis of the brake design to understand the heat dissipation through certain components. If necessary, teams can make design changes to optimize the heat transfer and structure.

The video demonstration goes over how to perform a thermostructural brake analysis. Part 1 goes over model information such as the geometry, materials, moment of inertia, contacts, and mesh. Part 2 goes over the acceleration input and kinetic energy calculations along with the model setup. Part 3 goes over post-processing various results in the transient model.
