Analysis Mode

Lumerical FDE has two modes of operation — Layout mode and Analysis mode. In this video, we will focus on the behavior of the GUI in Analysis mode.

Analysis Methods

Lumerical FDE provides various tools for analyzing the simulation results. In this video, you will learn about the various built-in tools for mode calculation, frequency sweep, power and overlap calculations, and far-field projection.

The simulation and script files used in the video can be downloaded from below:

FDE_Analyze_Analysis_method.lms
FDE_Analyze_analysis_methods.lsf

The simulation file contains a sweep object which sweeps the width of the silicon waveguide and tracks the effective index of the fundamental mode. The script file copies the fundamental mode for a 0.5 um wide waveguide to the DECK to use it as a reference mode for best overlap calculation.

To create a result for neff vs. width, take the following steps:

  1. Open the simulation file.
  2. Load and run the script file.
  3. Run the sweep.
  4. Visualize the result from the sweep by right-clicking it.
