Accurate CFD simulations must begin with clean CAD geometry of the object that is being analyzed. In addition, for external aerodynamic simulations, we must create a fluid domain surrounding our geometry. In this lesson, students will learn the fundamentals of sketching and 3D geometry creation using Ansys SpaceClaim.
First, a simple two-diameter rocket will be created. Afterward, students will become familiar with creating a fluid enclosure around the rocket. Best practices for CFD analysis, such as named selections and symmetry of the geometry, will be taken advantage of and incorporated into the lesson.
In this geometry creation lesson, students will explore the tools and operations fundamental to Ansys SpaceClaim. These tools and operations will be demonstrated as we create the two-diameter rocket and the surrounding air enclosure to be used for our CFD analysis. Finally, symmetry and named selections will be applied to the domain to ease computational expense and setup, respectively.
