Fundamentals of Theoretical and Experimental Aerodynamics

This learning track covers a comprehensive understanding of aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), along with their practical applications. It starts with the fundamental concepts of aerodynamics, including the generation of forces and moments on an aircraft, the use of wind tunnels for studies, and the dynamics of moving air. The track then delves into the intricacies of fluid dynamics, explaining the Lagrangian and Eulerian perspectives of flow, fluid element trajectories, and the Cartesian vector form of a velocity field. It further explores the concepts of inviscid and viscous flows, flow friction due to viscosity, and the role of Reynolds number in approximating Navier-Stokes equations. The learning track also covers the principles of airfoil geometry and aerodynamics, finite wing geometry, high-speed flows, thermodynamics, and compressible flow. It provides an in-depth understanding of computational aerodynamics and CFD, including the mathematical classification of partial differential equations, grid generation, and discretization. The track concludes with a detailed discussion on wind tunnels, fluid dynamics measurement techniques, electronic transducers, and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). It's like understanding how the wings of an airplane interact with the air around them to create lift and drag, and how these principles are applied in designing and testing aircraft.
