width=This course covers the advanced principles of thermodynamics and their practical applications, primarily in mechanical engineering. It delves into the second level of thermodynamics, discussing concepts like system control volume, properties of pure substances, and the first and second laws of thermodynamics. For instance, it explores the principle of increase of entropy, isentropic efficiency, and the application of these concepts in systems executing cyclic processes. The course also discusses the application of these principles in devices like steam turbines, gas turbines, and vapor compression refrigeration devices. It further covers the concept of entropy generation in thermodynamics, focusing on its application in various devices like mixing chambers, heat exchangers, and turbines. The course concludes with an in-depth understanding of thermodynamic processes, specifically focusing on reversible isothermal and reversible adiabatic processes.
