Fundamentals of Compressible Flows

Critical engineering applications such as jet engines, rocket engines, gas pipelines, wind tunnels, supersonic flight, etc., rely on the flow of fluids at high speeds. At such speeds, the compressibility of the fluid becomes important and must be taken into consideration while designing such applications. In this learning track, we will explore the fundamentals of compressible flows. We will begin by introducing the Basics of Compressible Flows. Then, we will talk about Shock - Expansion Theory and its applications. We will then discuss Internal Compressible Flows which play a vital role in the design of engineering applications. Shock-Expansion Theory

When a supersonic flow deviates from its flow path because of any reason, such as the presence of solid objects, shock and expansion waves are generated. The focus of this course is on analyzing these compressible supersonic waves. We will first study normal shocks and how ...Read more

Applications of Shock-Expansion

By now, we are familiar with the shock-expansion theory. In this course, we will be looking at the applied aspects of this theory. First, we will learn about how shock and expansion waves interact with each other and with their surroundings to generate wave ...Read more

Internal Compressible Flows

Many critical engineering applications such as jet engines, rocket engines, gas pipelines, wind tunnels, etc., rely on internal compressible flows. While designing these systems engineers try to achieve their goals with minimal losses from compressible waves and fricti...Read more
