How to Add Boundary Layers in Ansys Fluent Meshing — Lesson 5

Boundary layers are thin, viscosity-dominant regions that form along the surface of a solid body as fluid flows past it. These regions play a significant role in defining the overall fluid dynamics of the problem, and they consequently require special attention while simulating the fluid flow for such problems using CFD. In this lesson, the focus is on understanding the Add Boundary Layer task of the Ansys Fluent Meshing Watertight Geometry workflow, which is used to create high-resolution meshes that can capture the boundary layer flow physics. We will first look at the importance of boundary layer mesh, then learn how to specify the regions and the surfaces of interest where the boundary layer mesh needs to be defined. Next, along with the user inputs required in this task, we will discuss the details of different boundary layer mesh generation methods and their nuances.
