To capture wakes and laminar-to-turbulent flow transitions, it is sometimes necessary to create meshes with local volumetric refinements. The use of bodies of influence (BOIs) at the CAD geometry stage is one method to generate these refinement regions. Before importing these BOIs into the Ansys Fluent meshing, care must be taken at the geometry step to follow certain preset rules and guidelines. The Watertight Geometry Workflow in Fluent meshing provides an alternative option using the “Create Local Refinement Region Task.” In this lesson, we will learn how to create a box region for mesh refinement that encloses our geometry of interest. We will discuss the settings involved in this task and understand the workflow by creating a local refinement region on a car geometry for external flow analysis.
