Velocity Gradients and Rates of Deformation (Part II) — Lesson 12

In this lesson we will discuss velocity gradients which can be thought of as strain rates with respect to time. We define the material velocity gradient and the spatial velocity gradient tensors and discuss how the spatial velocity gradient can be mathematically expressed as the sum of rate of deformation and spin (or vorticity) tensors.
