Intro — Lesson 1

Example Device

In this lesson, we will investigate a simple problem of steady-state heat flow in a thin film. Specifically, we will explore the effect of cooling at the surface of a silicon thin film. The thin film has a length and width of 10 mm and a thickness of 10 microns. The symmetry of the problem allows us to perform a 2D simulation instead of a 3D one as depicted in the figure below. As part of the simulation, we will obtain the temperature profile across the thin film and the total heat loss due to the air cooling effect.

Basic Workflow

In this video lesson, we will learn about the basic workflow for HEAT simulations. For more information about the simulation workflow overview in the finite element IDE, see the Related Links.
