Effective Index Tab
The tabs of the varFDTD Solver region are very similar to those of the FDTD, with the exception of the Effective Index Tab. In this video, you will learn about the various settings in this tab to calculate the effective 2D materials.
Setup Tips
The selection of the correct slab mode is very important to obtain an accurate effective material model and accurate simulation results. In this video, you will learn about some setup tips regarding mode selection options and the choice of boundary conditions to obtain a correct slab mode.
Solver Region Demo
In this video, we will demonstrate how to set up the Solver Region using a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) taper. You will learn how to position the slab mode location to correctly represent the mode source as well as the 2D effective index profile. The simulation file (taper_design.lms) used in the video can be downloaded from the "Curved waveguide taper" page.
