Different events may occur over vastly different time scales. For example, it takes millions of years of erosion of rocks by forces of nature to create a beautiful and unique landscape such as the one shown below.
On the other hand, a car may crash and get terribly damaged in less than a second.
If we wish to simulate these events, would we use the same time scales? Of course not! Then what about the time integration methods?
