An interference fit is a commonly used technique in mechanical design where one part is installed into another in a way that the frictional force between them keeps them engaged. This feature is modeled in FEA by using robust contact algorithms. It is typically a nonlinear analysis, but with a little care it is easy to solve. In this video, we will show how to set it up in Ansys Mechanical and solve and interpret the results.
