STL Import Errors in HFSS After Cleaning in SpaceClaim

      Hi everyone,

I am trying to import a faceted model (STL) into HFSS. Before importing, I cleaned the file in SpaceClaim using the AutoFix feature. When I run the "Check Facets" option in SpaceClaim, the geometry checks out fine. However, when I analyze the object in HFSS with the Comprehensive setting, I get the following errors:

      Face Error: No face facets

Face Error: Face face inconsistency. Other entity Face_1783

When I switch to the Strict setting, only the first error appears.

This is surprising to me, since I assumed both SpaceClaim and HFSS use the same geometry kernel.

I would really appreciate insights on the following:

      STL Conversion in HFSS
I understand HFSS converts STL geometry into its own native CAD format. Does anyone know what this format is? Is it possible to generate this format directly in SpaceClaim so I can inspect it before importing into HFSS?

      Error Interpretation
What do these error messages (No face facets and Face face inconsistency) specifically mean?

      Performance with Large STL Files
When importing STL files with a large number of facets, the process becomes noticeably slow. Would it be more efficient to export the geometry from SpaceClaim in another CAD format (instead of STL) to speed up the import process in HFSS?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

      Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to the Ansys learning forum.

Ansys HFSS uses Parasolid geometry kernel starting from 2023R1 version. It is possible to save your file in Parasolid format using SpaceClaim. It is recommended to use this format as this avoids unnecessary CAD intercorversions.

It is difficult to comment on the errors without looking at the model. Please note that Ansys personnel cannot access files shared though this forum because of export guidelines. You can submit a case through ACSS portal if you have support eligibility where we can provide one to one assistance.

      Best regards,
