Simulating permanent magnet demagnetization at high temperature in Maxwell

      I have a few questions:

      1. How can I set up temperature-dependent material properties (e.g., Br, HcJ vs. temperature)?

      2. Is there a built-in way to define the irreversible demagnetization curve in Maxwell, or do I need to create custom B-H data for different temperatures?

      3. What’s the recommended workflow for combining thermal analysis with magnetic field simulation?

Any guidance, documentation links, or examples would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance!

      Hi,

Please find that answer to your questions below.

      1. How can I set up temperature-dependent material properties (e.g., Br, HcJ vs. temperature)?

To modify the BH curve based on temperature in Maxwell:

      1. Open the Material Properties window.
      2. Select Thermal Modifier.
      3. Click Edit under Relative Permeability – Thermal Modifier.
      4. Specify how the BH curve varies with temperature.

For more detailed information, refer to page 732 of the Maxwell Help documentation.

      1. Is there a built-in way to define the irreversible demagnetization curve in Maxwell, or do I need to create custom B-H data for different temperatures?

The demagnetization curve is setup in the Relative Permeability/nonlinear -> BH curve

As you know, this curve is defined in the second quadrant and may extend to the first and/or third quadrants, in which the first and last points are not oddly symmetric.

For more detailed information you can look into Maxwell Help page 635

      1. What’s the recommended workflow for combining thermal analysis with magnetic field simulation?

You can use Icepak AEDT or AEDT Mechanical Thermal, both tools are available in the Electronics Desktop. You can link the model easily by going to Maxwell 3D/ Create targe design.

If you have access to Ansys Learning Hub, I recommend looking the course Ansys Maxwell Magnetic Latching

      I hope this helps you.
