Question about ANSYS Student License 2024 R2 expiration

Hi everybody,

My name is Marco. Today, when I opened Ansys Workbench, I received a message saying that my student license will expire in 17 days (31/01/2026). I have a question about this:

Is this renewal method still valid? because when I enter the "licencing" folder inside "Shared Files", there's no "student.lic" file to replace. https://innovationspace.ansys.com/forum/forums/topic/how-can-i-renew-ansys-student-version-license/ 

Do I need to install a newer version of Ansys to renew the license?

You'll need to download the full bundle - the Student licence was never designed to be renewed. I do not expect a new 24R2 build to be added, but 25R1 may be updated. Short term, download 25R2 while we wait for 26R1.

Hi Marco,

That six year old link is obsolete.  The license expiration date is built into the files downloaded to install the software.  When your 2024 R2 expires on January 31, you will need to uninstall your currently installed version, download new isntallation media, unzip that and install it using Run as Administrator.

Ansys makes the latest 3 versions available for student installation.  Once Ansys 2026 R1 becomes available for students, 2024 R2 will no longer be available. You can download 2025 R2 now.
