How does Fluent/CFDPost display contour/data on a surface

Hi

I have a 3D pipe of flow. I have displayed the contours of velocity, pressure, secondary flow on a cross-section down the pipe. Does Fluent/CFDPost displays the actual data on that surface or does it interpolate from the 3D cells?

There are somethings like the CFF which uses cell values only but does the contour plotting interpolates or uses the actual surface value at that location?
