We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Error: “Process ‘3dnms’ terminated abnormally” in Ansys Maxwell

      Hello

I am currently working on the simulation of an axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) motor in Ansys Maxwell 3D. I encounter the following error during the simulation:

Error: Process '3dnms' terminated abnormally. It may have run out of memory or could have been killed by the user.

The error appears only when the full model is simulated, including the rotor (ring on top) and the permanent magnets (red and blue objects). If I reduce the model by excluding these components, the simulation runs without errors.

What I have tried so far:

      • Reducing the mesh density for all objects

      • Limiting the number of mesh elements in critical areas

      • Adjusting HPC settings

      Unfortunately, the error persists.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or could provide guidance on how to handle this memory-related problem? Any suggestions for resolving this error while keeping the full geometry would be greatly appreciated.

hank you in advance for your help!

      Figures included for reference:

      • Model of the axial flux motor

      • Mesh statistics

      • HPC settings

What is the memory usage running the full model?
