We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Challenges in Electrode Placement in Ansys Maxwell (Eddy Current Mode)

I am designing a brain tissue model in Ansys Maxwell (Eddy Current mode) to simulate electrical current flow through the head. One of the key challenges is correctly placing the electrodes on the outer skin surface.

The model consists of four layers:

      • Skin (Conductivity: 0.43 S/m)
      • Skull (Conductivity: 0.01 S/m)
      • CSF (Conductivity: 1.79 S/m)
      • Brain Matter (Conductivity: 0.33 S/m)

To apply stimulation, I have positioned two electrodes on the outer skin layer. A 2mA current excitation is assigned:

        • One electrode injects 2mA into the tissue, directing the current toward the brain.
        • The other electrode is assigned 2mA, directing current outward from the brain.

After successful validation of the setup, the simulation results indicate an invalid conduction path. I would greatly appreciate any insights or recommendations on resolving this issue.

Hi, you are getting the error because of the non-conductive path. In maxwell the input current should be equal with the output current. In case there is a dielectric in between, you end up with conduction path error. Kindly check your Model Settings> Material Thresholds to change the insulator thresholds.
