Deformation under Thermal Condition — Lesson 3

Engine blocks in cars are subjected to a severe thermal environment due to the combustion process occurring inside its chambers. Case cracking can be caused when a temperature difference occurs and the coefficients of thermal expansion vary for different parts, in the absence of adequate structural stiffness.

On the other hand, oil pumps in polar regions have to endure extremely low temperatures.
