Intro to Convection — Lesson 1

Walking outside in cold weather is uncomfortable, but walking outside when it is cold and windy is even worse! When you check the weather on cold days, in addition to the actual temperature, the weather app also shows the "feels like" temperature. On a windy day, the "feels like" temperature can be much lower than the actual temperature. Have you wondered why?

On the other hand, when drinking hot tea or coffee, we blow on it before taking the first sip to cool it down. Why does blowing on the tea or coffee cool it down faster?

The answers lie in a process known as heat convection, which will be discussed in this lesson.
