In previous lessons, we discussed how we can model bolts as solid bodies or line bodies, and how we can define bolt preload in both approaches. To apply the bolt preload, we mimic splitting the bolt into two halves and then apply constraint equations at the interface to produce tensile forces at the ends of bolt halves.
In this lesson, we will learn how to set up this scenario in simulation using Ansys Mechanical. One way is to use the Bolt Pretension Object and the second is to use the Translational Joint feature. We will discuss how to use both these methods, along with other important aspects of each approach.
Here are the accompanying handout slides for this lesson.
