Looking into the chart that we created in the previous lesson, in which we could compare our material choices in terms of their cost-saving and lightweighting potential, we can clearly see that there is a gap at the bottom left corner of the chart. This is exactly the area of this chart where we are most interested in where materials with minimized cost and mass could exist. To fill this gap, we will be using the Synthesizer tool and its analytical models for hybrid structured materials to estimate properties of a sandwich panel with CFRP as its faces and Aluminum honeycomb as its core. This will help us compare these novel composite materials with the ones we had on the chart from the previous lesson and in case they are better performing we come move forward with prototyping these sandwich panels for our monocoque.
