Workflow — Lesson 2

Spot Size Converter

In this video lesson, we will use the spot size converter example to demonstrate the basic EME workflow. The goal of the design is to decide on the minimum taper length of the device that can give close to 100% conversion efficiency of the larger input beam to a smaller beam for the output waveguide.

Setting Up The Simulation

In this video lesson, we will be creating the spot size converter from scratch. You will learn about setting up the material, structures, solver region, and other key simulation objects and running the simulation. The resulting file that is created can be downloaded here.

Propagation and Analyzing Results

Once the simulation is set up, the next step is to calculate the supported modes in each cell. In this video lesson, you will learn about the processes involved in propagating these modes to obtain the field results over the whole simulation region.
