Intro to the Workflow of Ansys Lumerical DGTD — Lesson 1

In this lesson, we will consider Mie scattering from a 3D nano-particle. The structure is a gold nanoparticle with a radius of 50 nm, illuminated by a plane wave with a wavelength range from 300 nm to 1100 nm.

Mie theory provides an analytic solution to the scattering and absorption of an electromagnetic plane wave incident on a homogeneous sphere.

We will use the Discontinuous Galerkin Time-Domain (DGTD) solver to calculate the absorption and scattering cross-sections and we will compare them to the analytic solution.

In the following video lesson, you will learn about the basic workflow of DGTD based on the Mie-scattering example.
