Typically those cases involve materials such as lossy ferrites and\/or lossy dielectrics. When the nature of losses is also due to magnetic and\/or electric hysteresis (and thus in addition to ohmic losses which also occur if electric conductivity is non-zero), Maxwell allows to model such effects using complex permeability and\/or permittivity by allowing the specification of the tangent of magnetic \/ electric loss (angle).
