Although the tutorial is performed in an older release, the features discussed are valid in newer releases as well. If you are looking for tutorials in the newer release, please refer to the Structural Simulation course for 2024R1: Structural Simulation Using Ansys Discovery | Ansys Courses

You can download the CAD Files from this link: Download CAD file

Structures In-Depth – Part 1

In first part of the structures In-Depth tutorial, we will cover importing the geometry for structural simulation and preparing the geometry. We learn how to include, exclude parts for simulation, use of Move Tool for orienting, aligning, removing gaps and penetrations between bodies. Learn how Fill Tool helps us defeaturing the geometry by removing the fillets, threads so that we can reduce the mesh count.

Structures In-Depth – Part 2

In second part we will learn how to assign the material and boundary condition for structural simulation on our suspension geometry. Specifically, we see how to apply hinged support, force based on the vector components. We can change the default Structural Steel material from the material library or edit the default material properties to create your own material.

Structures In-Depth – Part 3

Third part covers contacts and joints setup in Ansys Discovery. Contact Review Tool helps us identify contacts pairs and change the contact behavior to sliding, prevented or exclude from contact detection. We can group faces by body, tangent faces or set no grouping. Discovery allows you set manual contacts by defining primary face selection and secondary face selection. Finally, we learn how to define hinged joint.

Structures In-Depth – Part 4

Fourth part covers simulating the setup in Refine mode and post processing of the results. Refine mode uses the flagship mechanical solvers you can check the simulation progress in the SID (Simulation Information Display) once the simulation is 50% complete you can visualize the mesh by clicking on “Show Mesh” button.
