Unlike the Laminar Flamelet model, the reaction space of the FGM model is parameterized by Reaction Progress (and not just Strain Rate). This parameterization prevents the FGM solution from approaching chemical equilibrium (which will occur in Laminar Flamelet calculations), and allows for better predictions of non-equilibrium intermediates.
