The computation must be specified by the user.  In the magnetostatic and eddy current solvers this is under: Maxwell 3D > Parameters > Matrix. In the magnetostatic solver, you can choose apparent or incremental inductance.  In the eddy current solver, only apparent inductance can be calculated.   In the transient solver this is under: Design Settings > Matrix Computation > Compute Inductance Matrix.
