{"id":160159,"date":"2022-09-26T10:00:43","date_gmt":"2022-09-26T10:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"\/knowledge\/forums\/topic\/discovery-live-troubleshooting\/"},"modified":"2023-08-16T06:33:37","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T06:33:37","slug":"discovery-live-troubleshooting","status":"publish","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/knowledge\/forums\/topic\/discovery-live-troubleshooting\/","title":{"rendered":"Discovery Live Troubleshooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are some suggestions to try if you are having trouble getting Discovery Live running.<\/p>\n<h2  id=\"ISSUE-DISCOVERY-LIVE-DOES-NOT-LAUNCH\"><strong>Issue: Discovery Live does not launch<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3  id=\"SHOWS-UNABLE-TO-INITIALIZE-CUDA-PLEASE-TRY-UPDATING-GRAPHICS-DEVICE-DRIVER-OR-GRAPHICS-DEVICE-IS-NOT-COMPATIBLE-WITH-DISCOVERY-PLEASE-SEE-THE-DISCOVERY-LIVE-FORUM-FOR\"><em>Shows \u201cUnable to initialize CUDA, please try updating graphics device driver.\u201d or\u00a0&#8220;Graphics device is not compatible with Discovery. Please see the Discovery Live Forum for more information.&#8221; on product launch.<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Try updating the your graphics driver by visiting\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/Download\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/Download\/index.aspx<\/a>. We do not recommend the automatic update functionality provided through Device Manager in Windows.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that your machine meets the minimum hardware requirements by running the\u00a0Discovery Live Compatibility Utility found in the product installation at &lt;InstallDir&gt;scdmCudaCheckDiscoveryLiveCompatibilityUtility.exe<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2  id=\"ISSUE-SIMULATION-DOES-NOT-START-OR-USER-INTERFACE-IS-MISSING\"><strong>Issue: Simulation does not start or user interface is missing<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3  id=\"THE-MODELS-ARE-DISPLAYED-BUT-THE-SIMULATION-DOES-NOT-START\"><em>The models are displayed, but the simulation does not start.<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>This can happen if your GPU does not have enough memory to run the simulation. Run the\u00a0<a href=\"\/knowledge\/forums\/topic\/ansys-discovery-compatibility-utility\/\" >Discovery Live Compatibility Utility<\/a>\u00a0to check if your machine meets the minimum hardware requirements.<\/li>\n<li>If you have Multiple GPUs you may need to check if Discovery is using the right GPU. For more information on\u00a0<a href=\"\/knowledge\/forums\/topic\/discovery-how-to-delegate-1-of-multiple-gpus-to-the-solver\/\" >how to Delegate 1 of multiple GPUs to the Solver<\/a>\u00a0please check this page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3  id=\"MENU-IS-VISIBLE-BUT-A-BLACK-SCREEN-IS-DISPLAYED-INSTEAD-OF-THE-MODEL\"><em>Menu is visible, but a black screen is displayed instead of the model.<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Try disabling anti-aliasing through\u00a0<em>File&gt;Discovery Options&gt;Popular&gt;Anti-aliasing = Off<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2  id=\"ISSUE-SIMULATION-RESULTS-ARE-NOT-AS-EXPECTED\"><strong>Issue: Simulation results are not as expected<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><em>Some features in my model are not included in the results view.<br \/>\nFluid is flowing through a solid wall.<br \/>\nFluid is not flowing through a channel\/opening.<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your GPU meets the recommended hardware requirements (8GB GPU RAM)<\/li>\n<li>Try running with a higher fidelity setting and\/or with a larger GPU.<\/li>\n<li>Try to reduce the simulation bounds by\u00a0making the fluid enclosure smaller, or removing\u00a0 some parts of the model near the outer boundary.<\/li>\n<li>Last resort:\u00a0Try increasing the feature size by thickening the walls, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3  id=\"FLOW-RESULTS-DO-NOT-LOOK-REALISTIC\"><em>Flow results do not\u00a0look realistic<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Try using a Pressure condition with 0 Pa instead of the Outflow condition.<\/li>\n<li>Try running with a higher fidelity setting, or with a larger GPU.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-160159","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-discovery-live","topic-tag-faq","topic-tag-installation"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_wp_page_template":["default"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["09-13-2022  20:20:07"],"_bbp_forum_id":["159552"],"_btv_view_count":["4469"],"_edit_lock":["1680554252:41550"],"_edit_last":["76714"],"_bbp_topic_id":["160159"],"_yoast_wpseo_content_score":["60"],"_yoast_wpseo_estimated-reading-time-minutes":["2"],"_yoast_wpseo_wordproof_timestamp":[""],"family":[""],"application_name":[""],"product_version":[""],"_bbp_likes_count":["1"]},"test":"articlesansys-com"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/knowledge\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/160159","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/knowledge\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/knowledge\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/knowledge\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/160159\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/knowledge\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=160159"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
