Is it possible to use region face remeshing for 2D cases with inflation?

No. Region face remeshing can remesh 2D and 3D boundaries without inflations and 3d boundaries with wedge-type inflations. But it cannot remesh inflation layers that consist of quad cells. If you need 2D remeshing, you need to neglect the inflation layers. Alternatively, you can model a thin 3D slice (pseudo 2D) with at least two tetrahedral cells thickness. The inflation layers of such a mesh consist of wedge or prism type elements which can be used. This behavior is documented implicitly in the ANSYS Fluent 2019 R1 User’s Guide, part III, chapter 11.6.2.3.3.2. Applicability of the Face Region Remeshing Method.
