The geometry can be considered similar to a nozzle, and the negative pressure appears near the nozzle exit boundary, approximately in the <strong data-start=\"438\" data-end=\"474\">red-circled region in the figure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"477\" data-end=\"666\">The <strong data-start=\"481\" data-end=\"534\">operating pressure is set to atmospheric pressure<\/strong>, and I have also confirmed that the pressure being examined in post-processing is <strong data-start=\"617\" data-end=\"638\">absolute pressure<\/strong>, not static\/gauge pressure.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"668\" data-end=\"901\">Due to the nozzle geometry, I understand that an <strong data-start=\"717\" data-end=\"806\">air vortex is formed in the indicated region and that the local pressure can decrease<\/strong>. However, I am having difficulty understanding why the <strong data-start=\"862\" data-end=\"900\">absolute pressure becomes negative<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"903\" data-end=\"936\">I tested the following two cases:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"938\" data-end=\"1087\">\n<li data-section-id=\"xcoarh\" data-start=\"938\" data-end=\"1028\">A case where the <strong data-start=\"957\" data-end=\"1028\">air density was defined as a pressure-dependent density using a UDF<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1h2l09h\" data-start=\"1029\" data-end=\"1087\">A case where the <strong data-start=\"1048\" data-end=\"1087\">air density was fixed as a constant<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1089\" data-end=\"1175\">In both cases, negative absolute pressure appeared at approximately the same location.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1177\" data-end=\"1351\">In the first case, where the air density depends on pressure, I also observed that the <strong data-start=\"1264\" data-end=\"1350\">convergence deteriorates or the solution diverges as the nozzle velocity increases<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1353\" data-end=\"1381\">Therefore, my questions are:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"1383\" data-end=\"1567\">\n<li data-section-id=\"4qcd05\" data-start=\"1383\" data-end=\"1458\"><strong data-start=\"1386\" data-end=\"1458\">Why can negative absolute pressure occur in this type of simulation?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1wy6y1a\" data-start=\"1459\" data-end=\"1567\"><strong data-start=\"1462\" data-end=\"1567\">Why is the solver able to continue the calculation even when negative absolute pressure has occurred?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"1569\" data-end=\"1595\">For reference, I am using:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1597\" data-end=\"1685\">\n<li data-section-id=\"9quzlu\" data-start=\"1597\" data-end=\"1616\"><strong data-start=\"1599\" data-end=\"1616\">VOF: Implicit<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"pcoxm0\" data-start=\"1617\" data-end=\"1659\"><strong data-start=\"1619\" data-end=\"1659\">Time step size: <span class=\"katex-html\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><span class=\"base\"><span class=\"mord\">1<\/span><span class=\"mbin\">&times;<\/span><\/span><span class=\"base\"><span class=\"mord\">1<\/span><span class=\"mord\">0<span class=\"mord mtight\">&minus;5<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> s<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"118lnvi\" data-start=\"1660\" data-end=\"1685\"><strong data-start=\"1662\" data-end=\"1685\">CFL number: below 5<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1687\" data-end=\"1781\">From a numerical stability perspective, I considered these settings to be fairly conservative.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1783\" data-end=\"1992\">In addition, since I wanted to model <strong data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1877\">compressible flow without solving the energy equation<\/strong>, I selected the following approach\/settings.
