I used a 2nd block to trigger a displacement (like using finger to push the free-end of the beam). Large deflection is “ON”. I have tested 2 materials so far, the Ansys built-in Stainless Steel NL and my custom added Copper C19910.<\/p>
<\/p>
Results and Issues:<\/p>
Both materials in the results yield at a point significantly above the yield strength defined in the NL isotropic hardening data. Depending on the beam geometry, I have seen Stainless NL yield at 260MPa and 380MPa vs the 210MPa yield strength in the material data. The copper is yielding at 1600MPa vs the 1000MPa in the material data.<\/p>
The equivalent von-Mises stress curve does not show any non-linear behavior after the yield as the max stress seens to flat out.<\/p>
Any reason why they are showing a much higher yield strength in this cantilever beam study? <\/p>
Why the results have stress flat out without any further increase as the plastic strain is still increasing?<\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/01-06-2026-1780318956-mceclip1.png\" \/><\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/01-06-2026-1780318938-mceclip0.png\" \/><\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/01-06-2026-1780318981-mceclip2.png\" \/><\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/01-06-2026-1780319003-mceclip3.png\" \/><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-459112","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-mechanical","topic-tag-structures"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_bbp_forum_id":["27791"],"_bbp_topic_id":["459112"],"_bbp_subscription":["679538","240"],"_bbp_author_ip":["99.209.167.114"],"_bbp_last_reply_id":["459124"],"_bbp_last_active_id":["459124"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["2026-06-01 14:37:01"],"_bbp_reply_count":["1"],"_bbp_reply_count_hidden":["0"],"_bbp_voice_count":["2"],"_bbp_engagement":["679538","240"],"_btv_view_count":["35"],"_bbp_topic_status":["unanswered"]},"test":"lewisliuamphenol-hsio-com"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/459112","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/459112\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=459112"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
