I first built a 3D model using current excitation and was able to get the expected torque, but when I try to use the same approach in the 2D linear model, the results don’t look right. Because of that, I switched to voltage excitation, but then I got confused about what values to use for resistance and inductance—whether they should represent just the conductor or the full phase winding including end windings. I used analytically calculated phase resistance, which made the simulation more stable, but the flux linkage dropped to almost half of what I was getting in 3D, and the torque is also off. I then tried to check the no-load condition by setting slip to zero and defining the linear velocity in terms of slip, but I’m still getting significant torque, similar to the load case, which doesn’t make sense. I also tried using RMxprt just to cross-check, but there the phase current seems unusually high. I have worked with radial flux machines before, but this is my first time working with axial flux induction machines, so I might be missing something fundamental. I’d really appreciate any guidance on how to properly define the excitation, choose correct resistance\/inductance values, and simulate a true no-load condition in a 2D LMMA AFIM model.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-457054","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-induction-motor-maxwell2d","topic-tag-motor-design","topic-tag-RMxprtDesing-1"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_bbp_forum_id":["27793"],"_bbp_topic_id":["457054"],"_bbp_author_ip":["2001:6b0:2:2801:48b0:845b:d664:d3c7"],"_bbp_last_reply_id":["0"],"_bbp_last_active_id":["457054"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["2026-04-24 14:13:02"],"_bbp_reply_count":["0"],"_bbp_reply_count_hidden":["0"],"_bbp_voice_count":["1"],"_bbp_engagement":["679961"],"_btv_view_count":["22"],"_bbp_topic_status":["unanswered"],"_bbp_notification_enabled":["679961"]},"test":"challastudent-chalmers-se"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/457054","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/457054\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=457054"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
