{"id":455819,"date":"2026-04-06T10:41:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T10:41:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/hfss-simulation-error-com-engine-non-responsive-engine-terminated-unexpectedly\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T10:41:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T10:41:40","slug":"hfss-simulation-error-com-engine-non-responsive-engine-terminated-unexpectedly","status":"publish","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/hfss-simulation-error-com-engine-non-responsive-engine-terminated-unexpectedly\/","title":{"rendered":"HFSS Simulation Error: Com Engine non-responsive, Engine terminated unexpectedly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;15&#8243;&gt;Hello Ansys Support team,&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;16&#8243;&gt;I am encountering a recurring issue while running a simulation in Ansys HFSS and would greatly appreciate any advice or guidance.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;17&#8243;&gt;Here is a brief overview of my simulation setup:&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;ul data-path-to-node=&#8221;18&#8243;&gt;<\/p>\n<li>&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;18,0,0&#8243;&gt;&lt;strong data-path-to-node=&#8221;18,0,0&#8243; data-index-in-node=&#8221;0&#8243;&gt;Solver\/Boundary:<\/strong> IE and FEBI&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;18,1,0&#8243;&gt;&lt;strong data-path-to-node=&#8221;18,1,0&#8243; data-index-in-node=&#8221;0&#8243;&gt;Mesh Count:<\/strong> Approximately 12,000 elements&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;19&#8243;&gt;The problem is that the simulation frequently hangs and eventually crashes. &lt;strong data-path-to-node=&#8221;19&#8243; data-index-in-node=&#8221;76&#8243;&gt;This does not happen at one specific variation or point<\/strong>; rather, it occurs randomly but persistently during the solving process. When it crashes, it throws the following messages in the Message Manager:&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;19&#8243;&gt;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/06-04-2026-1775471845-mceclip0.png\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/06-04-2026-1775471848-mceclip1.png\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/06-04-2026-1775471851-mceclip2.png\" \/>&lt;\/p&gt;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;9,0,0,0&#8243;&gt;Com Engine non-responsive since. Can be due to CPU intensive processing or network problems. If persisting for long, manually kill the com engine process and restart analysis. Retrying&#8230;.&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;9,0,1,0&#8243;&gt;Machine [Local Machine]: Solving variation [&#8230;]. This machine instance is no longer responding and will no longer be used during this analysis.&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;9,0,2,0&#8243;&gt;Machine Local Machine: Engine terminated unexpectedly, or machine reported error or was inaccessible.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;22&#8243;&gt;<strong>Given that the mesh size is only around 12k, I wouldn&#8217;t expect this to be a severe hardware limitation. Since it randomly disconnects and terminates on my local machine, could this be related to a CPU overload, an MPI\/communication glitch, or some background timeout?<\/strong>&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p data-path-to-node=&#8221;23&#8243;&gt;<strong>Has anyone faced a similar random crashing issue with IE\/FEBI solvers, and how did you resolve it?
