{"id":447554,"date":"2025-11-29T01:07:22","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T01:07:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/guidance-needed-on-applying-boundary_non_reflecting_2d\/"},"modified":"2025-11-29T01:07:22","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T01:07:22","slug":"guidance-needed-on-applying-boundary_non_reflecting_2d","status":"publish","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/guidance-needed-on-applying-boundary_non_reflecting_2d\/","title":{"rendered":"Guidance Needed on Applying BOUNDARY_NON_REFLECTING_2D"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&lt;p&gt;Hi everyone,&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I&rsquo;m working on a 2D axisymmetric hypervelocity impact simulation in LS-DYNA and am trying to apply <strong>non-reflecting boundary conditions<\/strong> to the outer edges of the target domain (bottom and right boundaries).&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When I select <strong>all nodes<\/strong> along those boundaries and assign:&lt;\/p&gt;<\/p>\n<pre><code>*BOUNDARY_NON_REFLECTING_2D\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>&lt;p&gt;I receive the following error:&lt;\/p&gt;<\/p>\n<pre><code>*** Error 21385 (STR+1385)\nThe node set of *BOUNDARY_NON_REFLECTING_2D 1 has\n2 non-consecutive nodes: 94606 94884\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>&lt;p&gt;However, if I apply the boundary card to only a <strong>single node<\/strong> on each boundary, the error disappears &mdash; but that clearly isn&rsquo;t physically correct for wave absorption.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My understanding is that node numbering along the boundary must be <strong>sequential<\/strong> for NRBC to work correctly, but I&rsquo;m not sure of the best practice to enforce this in a 2D axisymmetric mesh (e.g., whether to define separate segments, sort nodes, or restructure the mesh).&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Could anyone please advise on the correct way to define <strong>non-reflecting boundaries<\/strong> for a 2D axisymmetric ALE\/Lagrangian model?
