I am undergoing this endevour to extract S-parameters and see the fields generated on some more exoctic shapes that I am making. However, I just can’t seem to wrap my head around how to do this. My HFSS is setup as:<\/p>
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/19-08-2025-1755633879-mceclip9.png\" width=\"255\" height=\"313\" \/><\/p>
The set-up I have can be distilled<\/strong> down into this incredibly simple case: one loop of copper wire (see pictured below).<\/p>
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/19-08-2025-1755630992-mceclip0.png\" width=\"323\" height=\"251\" \/><\/p>
I realize that a terminal lumped port may be best suited for this to drive the wire. So, I have tried making a break in the wire, a space for the port, so that the wire can be driven by some input (see below picture). The terminals are on the same plane. Note on creation there is only one conducting body (the wire). On creation it makes two terminal edges. <\/p>
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/19-08-2025-1755632299-mceclip3.png\" width=\"324\" height=\"272\" \/>           <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/19-08-2025-1755632343-mceclip5.png\" width=\"263\" height=\"339\" \/>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/19-08-2025-1755632384-mceclip6.png\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/19-08-2025-1755632397-mceclip7.png\" width=\"171\" height=\"210\" \/><\/p>
Now, when trying to run the similation it says we should remove one of the terminal edges. So I do.<\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/19-08-2025-1755632543-mceclip8.png\" \/><\/p>
Now my excitation is only on one edge of the sheet:<\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/19-08-2025-1755634419-mceclip10.png\" \/><\/p>
Now the simulation runs. But this just feels wrong? What is the lumped port doing if it only has one terminal? Why did I have to delete one of the terminals?<\/p>
Could you please confirm that this is the correct methodology I have here, and confrim that the deletion is required to get this to work? I would like to be confident that I am using the software correctly.<\/p>
Thank you for any thoughts and help :).<\/p>
Best,
Matthew<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-439668","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-hfsslumped_sources-1","topic-tag-hfss"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_bbp_forum_id":["27793"],"_bbp_topic_id":["439668"],"_bbp_subscription":["586245","15859"],"_bbp_author_ip":["198.168.152.50"],"_bbp_last_reply_id":["439676"],"_bbp_last_active_id":["439676"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["2025-08-19 23:38:52"],"_bbp_reply_count":["2"],"_bbp_reply_count_hidden":["0"],"_bbp_voice_count":["2"],"_bbp_engagement":["586245","15859"],"_btv_view_count":["476"],"_bbp_topic_status":["unanswered"]},"test":"bendham-wattgmail-com"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/439668","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/439668\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=439668"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
