


{"id":41410,"date":"2020-03-02T19:10:21","date_gmt":"2020-03-02T19:10:21","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/topic\/pre-meshed-crack-solve-error\/"},"modified":"2020-03-02T19:10:21","modified_gmt":"2020-03-02T19:10:21","slug":"pre-meshed-crack-solve-error","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/pre-meshed-crack-solve-error\/","title":{"rendered":"Pre-Meshed Crack Solve Error"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello,<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I am solving a very simple edge crack problem, where I have defined a pre-meshed crack and am trying to find the SIF:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6032193\/uploads\/attachments\/a3824d5d-7661-4ec8-b897-a99a0137bbd8\/6ccc2785-9697-482b-8ae8-ab72013a8bff_screenshot-(1).jpg?width=690&amp;upscale=false\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I use a sphere of influence to refine the mesh at the crack front, but when I refine the mesh at the crack tip past a certain point and try to solve, an &#8220;unexpected error&#8221; occurs and I get the following message:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The crack tip Local Coordinate Systems are not consistent along the&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <br \/>&nbsp;crack front set 1.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, I also see the following warning in the solver output, which is very strange seeing as I only have one material defined for the whole body:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Material number 2 (used by element 46395) should normally have at least <br \/>&nbsp;one MP or one TB type command associated with it.&nbsp; Output of energy by&nbsp; <br \/>&nbsp;material may not be available.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Overall, I&#8217;m very confused as to why this is happening. Just a week ago, I was running this same simulation okay, but after updating to R3, I&#8217;m encountering this problem.
