{"id":404063,"date":"2025-01-08T09:02:42","date_gmt":"2025-01-08T09:02:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/crazy-memory-allocation-in-transient-structural\/"},"modified":"2025-01-08T09:02:42","modified_gmt":"2025-01-08T09:02:42","slug":"crazy-memory-allocation-in-transient-structural","status":"publish","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/crazy-memory-allocation-in-transient-structural\/","title":{"rendered":"crazy memory allocation in transient structural"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&lt;p&gt;Hello community,&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When I was running a FSI simulation (Transient Structural and Fluent), the following error message were echoed from Transient Structural module:&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;=========================================================== &nbsp;&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;*** ERROR *** &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; CP = &nbsp; 67653.844 &nbsp; TIME= 08:21:24&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;There is not enough memory for the Distributed Sparse Matrix Solver to &nbsp;&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;proceed. &nbsp;This error has occurred on the process with MPI Rank ID = 10 &nbsp;&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;on machine (ce-bg112). &nbsp;Please increase the virtual memory on your &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;system and\/or increase the work space memory and rerun the solver. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;The memory currently allocated by this process = 376 GB. &nbsp;The memory &nbsp; &nbsp;&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;allocation attempted = 0 GB. &nbsp;The largest block of memory allocated by &nbsp;&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;this process that is available for the Distributed Sparse Matrix &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;Solver = 0 GB.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;=========================================================== &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;A few facts:&lt;\/p&gt;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I believe I have prescribed sufficient constraints to my model, and I attemped to reduce the number of elements.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>There is no problem when running structural analysis alone.<\/li>\n<li>The error message could raise at any points during my simulations (e.g., 36%, 41%, 50%) &#8211; seems that it is just random, but I cannot say this for certain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&lt;p&gt;I was confused by the memory of 376 GB allocated to the process &#8211; how can this be possible?&nbsp; Thanks.&lt;\/p&gt;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-404063","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-fsi-transient-1","topic-tag-DistributedMemoryParallel-1","topic-tag-low-memory-2","topic-tag-transient-structural"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_bbp_forum_id":["27791"],"_bbp_topic_id":["404063"],"_bbp_subscription":["47694","20905","3937"],"_bbp_author_ip":["146.179.86.24"],"_bbp_last_reply_id":["404264"],"_bbp_last_active_id":["404264"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["2025-01-09 14:31:43"],"_bbp_reply_count":["3"],"_bbp_reply_count_hidden":["0"],"_bbp_voice_count":["3"],"_bbp_engagement":["47694","20905","3937"],"_btv_view_count":["268"],"_bbp_topic_status":["unanswered"]},"test":"6811154a69189dbf3dea8551d366ebac69e385c4"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/404063","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/404063\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=404063"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
