OpticStudio is supposed to create a “Zemax” folder in a user’s “Documents” folder at the first launch, however the systems that I will be installing on use a network drive for user accounts (mapped as U: at log on). On first launch, OpticStudio seems to handle this properly and displays the message below.<\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/06-01-2025-1736184508-Capture.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>
However, after this message the following error messages are displayed.<\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/06-01-2025-1736184613-Capture1.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/06-01-2025-1736184625-Capture2.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>
After clicking “OK” on these, the software launches but then displays the error messages below.<\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/06-01-2025-1736184665-Capture3.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/06-01-2025-1736184696-Capture5.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/06-01-2025-1736184715-Capture6.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/>
During this process, a folder named “Zemax” is automatically created on the user’s network drive. However, any subsequent launches of the software display the same error messages except for the “Zemax\\OBJECTS\\Grid Files\\STOP Files” error message.<\/p>
After this, if the “Data” folder location is manually selected using the “OpticStudio Preferences” in the “setup” tab, then the folders seem to be created correctly and there are no error messages while creating files or during subsequent launches. Comparing the files in the manually selected “Data” folder and the folder automatically created on first launch there are significantly fewer files located in the automatically created “Zemax” folder.<\/p>
Contents of the automatically created “Zemax” folder.<\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/06-01-2025-1736187697-Capture7.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>
Contents of the manually selected “Zemax” folder.<\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/06-01-2025-1736187756-Capture8.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>
Is there a specific way to handle network drives for OpticStudio or some way to configure the default folder locations either through the command line or by using parameters for the .exe installer? Any information that might be helpful is greatly appreciated.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-403776","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-install-error","topic-tag-licensing-installation","topic-tag-network","topic-tag-opticstudio"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_bbp_forum_id":["27816"],"_bbp_topic_id":["403776"],"_bbp_subscription":["500066","11652"],"_bbp_author_ip":["129.82.94.129"],"_bbp_last_reply_id":["404172"],"_bbp_last_active_id":["404172"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["2025-01-08 19:24:59"],"_bbp_reply_count":["2"],"_bbp_reply_count_hidden":["0"],"_bbp_voice_count":["2"],"_bbp_engagement":["500066","11652"],"_btv_view_count":["198"],"_bbp_topic_status":["unanswered"],"_edit_lock":["1736189129:473055"]},"test":"jecircencolostate-edu"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/403776","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/403776\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=403776"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
