


{"id":39968,"date":"2020-01-06T14:20:39","date_gmt":"2020-01-06T14:20:39","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/topic\/how-to-find-equivalent-thermal-strain\/"},"modified":"2020-01-06T14:20:39","modified_gmt":"2020-01-06T14:20:39","slug":"how-to-find-equivalent-thermal-strain","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/how-to-find-equivalent-thermal-strain\/","title":{"rendered":"How to find equivalent thermal strain?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am calculating thermal-elastic-viscoplastic strains in a solidifying material.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Thermal strain was calculated using the isotropic secant coefficient of thermal expansion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I extracted the strain values using equivalent elastic strain, equivalent plastic strain, equivalent total strain and thermal strain.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I observed that,&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Equivalent Total Strain = Equivalent Elastic Strain + Equivalent Plastic Strain.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Thermal strain was not included in the Equivalent total strain because the results of thermal strain were based on orientation (X, Y and Z<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>axis) whereas elastic and plastic are in equivalent form.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6032193\/uploads\/attachments\/b06dc52a-02be-4180-a5b4-aac600a26f6f\/8d7bbb17-ad34-4dd2-81b0-ab3a00ec25e6_screenshot-(1).jpg?width=690&amp;upscale=false\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In the manual, it is mentioned that an equivalent thermal strain can be calculated using Von-Mises equation.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6032193\/uploads\/attachments\/b06dc52a-02be-4180-a5b4-aac600a26f6f\/3c44c078-9246-4085-a9a9-ab3a00e96c5c_capture.jpg?width=690&amp;upscale=false\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Is there any way to calculate the Equivalent thermal strain?
