As per the standard for these structures, if I would like to evaluate the fatigue on these joints, the stresses to evaluate the fatigue have to account for the geometry of the welds at the joints to avoid modelling the weld itself and therefore a more efficient simulation. There are formulations to compute the stresses at the joints (also called notch stress or hot spot stress) and they are based on the dimensions of the tubes. They way this is done is by extrapolating either principal or normal stresses near the joint. the following schematic shows what I mean:<\/p>
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/323589592\/figure\/fig2\/AS:866937206747136@1583705345012\/Sample-surface-extrapolation-of-hot-spot-stress.jpg\" alt=\"Sample surface extrapolation of hot spot stress. | Download Scientific Diagram\" \/><\/p>
My question is, is there a way where this is done in ansys automatically somehow to avoid coding? <\/p>
Another question is, is there a way to manually edit the principal stress output from ansys at the desired locations?<\/p>
Any help would be much appreciated<\/p>
Thanks in advance<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-397629","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-fatigue","topic-tag-offshore-1"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_bbp_forum_id":["27791"],"_bbp_topic_id":["397629"],"_bbp_subscription":["37097","490"],"_bbp_author_ip":["137.44.100.1"],"_bbp_last_reply_id":["398531"],"_bbp_last_active_id":["398531"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["2024-12-26 16:24:14"],"_bbp_reply_count":["3"],"_bbp_reply_count_hidden":["0"],"_bbp_voice_count":["2"],"_bbp_engagement":["37097","490"],"_btv_view_count":["1128"],"_bbp_topic_status":["unanswered"]},"test":"karim-el-ghamrawyswansea-ac-uk"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/397629","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/397629\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=397629"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
