Here&#8217;s the basic information about the sim:&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/11\/25-11-2024-1732576724-split multizone mesh.png\" alt=\"\" \/>&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This is the general sim geometry.&nbsp;&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;\/p&gt;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;The model consists of multiple parts held together by solid body bolts with simplified cylindrical shafts and T-nuts&lt;\/p&gt;\n<ul>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Realistic contacts:&lt;\/p&gt;\n<ul>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Nuts are bonded to bolt shafts with a tiny gap in between&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Bolt head contacts with gussets are frictional, 0.2 coefficient&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Nut contact with beam is frictional, 0.2 coefficient&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Bolt shafts to gusset and beam walls is frictionless (basically the bolt hole)&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Parts held together by physically modeled bolts have frictional contacts between them if they&rsquo;re directly connected by a fastener and frictionless otherwise&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;All parts without physically modeled bolts are bonded&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Boundary conditions are two fixed supports where the model is cut off, plus a planar symmetry boundary condition&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;500N force upward&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;<strong>Fixes attempted to achieve convergence<\/strong>&lt;\/p&gt;\n<ul>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Gradual load stepping from 150N to 500N over 8 steps&lt;\/p&gt;\n<ul>\n<li>Total number of steps is 10, first two left without load to allow contacts and bolt pretensions to initialize<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Increased substeps to 250 initial, 100 minimum, 500 max&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Removing mesh controls and using a very fine mesh&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Fixed contacts in contact tool under connections&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>&lt;p&gt;Large deflection on and off&lt;\/p&gt;<\/li>\n<li>Increased Newton-Raphson residual value to 4 and increased mesh density at the NR maxima after a failed solve<\/li>\n<li>Used modal analysis to vet contacts\n<ul>\n<li>No parts flew off and there were no 0 values for modes so this looked fine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Any advice would be greatly appreciated!&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;\/p&gt;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-395252","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"aioseo_head":"\n\t\t<!-- All in One SEO 4.9.10 - aioseo.com -->\n\t<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Hi, I&#039;m consistently having trouble getting this sim to converge.
