In setting up the model, I used DesignModeler to create a shared topology. This involved selecting all of the bodies in the model and then selecting, “Form New Part.” I have noticed, however, that while the mesh is conformal, there are contact elements and a bonded contact created at the boundary between the layers. If I create a shared topology in SpaceClaim, there aren’t any contacts created. The results are also slightly different after running the simulation (nothing too drastic, but minor differences).

Is there any advantage to choosing one method for creating the conformal mesh over the other? I guess it comes down to deciding if those contacts would add any benefit to the simulation or not. I’ll also note that I just use the default bonded contact settings that DesignModeler creates. In reality, there probably would be some kind of bond between the layers, but I’m not very concerned with the properties of that bond at the moment.

["post-38497","topic","type-topic","status-closed","hentry
[{"0":
10675
Anonymous
false
publish
null
normal
0
4000
236661
unanswered
publish
38497
27790
240","157829","169781
3
11
97876
97876
2019-11-05 20:39:26
["GET
